Be inspired: It's time to get real with David Foster Wallace
For ages I've been weirdly attracted to David Foster Wallace's work but a little hesitant to get near his literary work because something in the way he conducted himself while alive made me believe that his witty and humorous style would not be appealing to me. Until a couple of days ago when I rediscovered and dusted my platonic attraction to all things DFW and decided to give it another go.
I decided I would ease into his work by starting with This Is Water
. A commencement speech he gave in 2005 that was greatly praised and later turned into almost a sort of quote book. Every sentence in the book is written in a different page. and even though it can be annoying at times, it also gives you the power to slow down, soak it in and think about the effect is has in your life.It was something so simple that actually changed my take on life and education a couple of years ago. I guess you can say that it woke me up from the stereotypical "life-without-school-is-no-life" mindset and allowed me to see that education is about awareness and life's colours about how you choose to see them. There's something so tragically beautiful about this speech that keeps me coming back for more. Maybe it has to do with how his life ended and his struggle to stay alive but maybe it has to do with the fact that he is so great at teaching us how to live a fulfilling life that he obviously couldn't follow his own example. Whatever it is, it sure is a great was to dive into this literary genius' work.
Have you ever read some of David Foster Wallace's work? If so which was your favorite and why?
I'm planning on reading some of his work in this order:
- A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments
(Which I started last week and been eating up like crazy)
- Consider the Lobster and Other Essays
- Brief Interviews with Hideous Men
- The Broom of the System: A Novel
- Oblivion: Stories
and finally
- Infinite Jest
Please share this with friends! I think it's something worth getting out and if you want to know more about the genius behind this speech please visit His site.

Happy weekend!
Oh hi flowers!
Why can't I be you* // A small but beautiful plant set up // Yummy homemade popsicle recipe // Little girls that dress even better than myself *Massive sigh* // Flowers a-plenty // Colourful home decor to live in summer al year long // Blackberry-lemon Gin & tonics // I need this in my life.
I've been in a floral high lately and I tell ya I ain't complaining. I find myself feeling a little bit happier, merrier and cheerful when I see those pretty patterns or smell those awesome scents. I feel the need to incorporate them to my everyday life and that's exactly what my summer mission is. (Well, more like summer somewhere else in the world. It's been raining like crazy around here but I won't let that get me down).
Flowers really do make me happy.
What makes you happy lately?

Think this through
Some days we all need reassurance Some days we need to feel that what we do or what we say is right. Most of the time we don't know. and probably won't at all. But that's ok as long as you have someone to catch you when you fall. Someone who will pick up your tiny broken self and will piece you back together and additionally fill your heart with happiness and make you grand just because you're worth it.
When you're having a bad day, keep your chin up and smile because you will be saved and you will know love.
Happy monday folks!
*Had this scheduled since friday but touched closely to my heart today specially for some reason.
Daydreaming about: farming and simple living
It's not a secret to anyone that knows me that I've been long dreaming about simple living. I'm one of those people that doesn't find city living fulfilling or exciting anymore and all I can think about all day is about dropping everything and running in the other direction. I know we've all had this I-want-to-have-fresh-eggs-and-milk-everyday dream at least once. But for many people it's just that; A distant dream that is likely not happening.
Now, I promise that I'm not one of those bratty bloggers that say they love country living but actually have no idea what farming actually entails. I promise I really am interested in breeding and raising chickens, pigs, cows, bees and maybe sheeps or goats. I promise I really do know all the hard work that a farm demands and the sacrifices that you have to make in order to have dinner in your table (and your animals alive!). I promise I don't mind moving away from the comfort of fast food, groserie stores and waving vacations goodbye. I promise I actually dream about sleeping next to a pregnant cow waiting for her to deliver.
I learned all of this by reading tons (seriously, a lot!!) of books about sustainable living. My curiosity started out by wanting to know how could I plant and maintain a herb garden in a teeny tiny city apartment. I learned so many things and a new world was opened to me. My curiosity then lead me to discover the amazing ways of farming. I started following bloggers like Kate from The Longest Acres and Home Sweet Homestead to get a little more insight into their lives. It is great because they both share something that text books don't: Passion.
There are some books that I hold dear to my heart though, and I wanted to share them with you. The ones that taught me most of what I know about it. The ones that make my heart yearn for a small piece of land for me and my family every day and the ones that keep inspiring me to go for it!
ONE: I guess this book became a staple of modern farming because Julia Rothman is just that good. Her funny quirky illustrations give so much insight and make it so much fun to learn! When you go through the pages you don't see it as something you'll get bored of. Im a hyper-visual learner and it's been great getting to know farm animals and plants without reading loooooong boring texts.
TWO: I LOVE Chris Gleason and the fact that he shares over 21 awesome projects to build around your garden or piece of land in this book. There's everything you might need, from the basic projects to get started in gardening to super advanced greenhouses and chicken coops. He is super informative and makes it really easy to understand.
THREE: Again, big fan of this book and of Chris Gleason in general. He explains EVERYTHING that there is to know about chicken coops. The best fit for a different kinds of chicken, and what needs to do when they start growing in number! This books makes me anxious and excited to start raising and caring for chickens.
FOUR: The bible of alternate natural sustainable living! Seriously, it's so good! This book talks a lot about different strategies to plant, grow and live of different types of food that can be planted in your yard or farm. It is amazing to see how people tend to the earth as they produce food for themselves. Mark Shepard really teaches you how to stop killing everything that is alive in order for you to eat but instead teaches you to give back to the soil and nurture it to be fertile.
FIVE: This handbook gives excellent information and step-to-step instructions and beautiful illustrations to live a self-sustainable life on the suburbs. One of my all time favorite reads!
SIX: My personal favorite part of this book is all the amazing information about putting your produce to use. Making cheese and yogurt, planting and collecting and all the useful recipes.
That's it I hope you like them and please do share your favorite books on the subject with me. I'm always in the look for more!

Be Inspired: A little pep talk for you and me... From Kid President
A much needed pep talk for all of us.
I was having a rough time finding my motivation this morning to get up and start the day but as soon as I came across this kiddo I knew that problem would be solved. As soon as he opened his mouth I felt uplifted and ready to tackle my amazingly long to do list that's been haunting me for the last couple of days. He made me laugh, made me tear up but most of all he made me want to get up and be the change.
I hope this video works wonders on you as it did on me!
Have a lovely and happy day

Happy late Valentines to you all, how was your day? I got to spend some time with my girlie and headed out for a fancy dinner/movie date night with my man and today we're re making my pink pancake recipe for breakfast because, why not? I'm so happy that I got to spend this special day with my two favorite people!
Besides my little family these are some of my favorite things:
To think about: Theres nothing more inspiring that coming across a nice quote when you need it the most. This week has been pretty rough to say the least but pretty words like that can make my mood make a 180 degree spin and make me feel so much better!
To wear: Atlantic-Pacific does it again! I swear this woman is my fashion soulmate. Every time I see her new outfit I think "Ahh! Why didn't I think about that before?"
To decorate: Everyone that knows me is aware of my undying love for all things ombré. I know I know that trend is so last season for a lot of you but in my heart it is still going strong.
To party: I find balloons to be so "meh" lately. Same boring colors for the same boring parties. I sure would love to have pretty balloons like that floating around my house every day of the week. Gold makes me happy.
To eat: Almost to pretty to eat it right? A cake is always a great way to say I love you and this one just screams it. I love the romantic feel the flowers and all that pink give to it.
What are your favorite things right now?
Valentines Favorites (DIY & Printables)
Ah! Its that time of year again. Valentines is just around the corner. Everyone seems to be prepping for some romance, dusting out the fancy dress and shoes, making plans and the room starts to smell like flowers and chocolate. Nah! Not really but seriously, Pinterest is one big pink and red explosion and I'm totally digging it. I'm a sucker for pretty DIY tutorials and printables.
Here are some of my favorite DIY Valentine's pins so far:

Daydreaming of...
Every year about this time I start to daydream about travelling and this year is no different. My mind started to wonder and ended up in this pretty hotel.
Denmark is obviously well known for its amazing design so it's no surprise that almost every hotel there is avant guarde, and colourful. That's why the Hotel Alexandra caught my eye. It is the only retro design hotel located in the heart of Copenhaguen next to the Tivoli Gardens. Decorated with classic pieces, 1950's and 60's furniture, leather, framed prints and posters and lots and lots of white, this place is practically my dream home.
Imagine to wake up to one of these rooms every morning. Sip a cup of coffee by the window overlooking the Town Hall Square and then sit on a leather couch and read a book. Sounds like my dream life too!
A few favorites!
I'm somewhat of a pretend shopper. I'm constantly looking for things I like, clothes I'd wear and furniture for my pretend dream home but never actually buy anything. I guess I'm more of a DIY kind of girl. I have a pretty defined sense of style. Even though I love white (actually love is an understatement), I'm a big fan of bold prints, colours and kiddy illustration.
1. When I saw that little linen pinafore made by Sir Tom on Etsy my heart almost stopped. I hoped it was Amelia's size and was so bummed out to see it wasn't -Stop growing so fast baby!- That print is so pretty and fun!
2. The little chevron and deer journals are sold on Target and I like that you don't have to spend tons of money to get something pretty. These are perfect for me. I'm obsessed with all things stationery. I love paper design so so much!
3. Svenskt Tenn is an awesome interior design shop located in Stockholm and it's one of my favorite shops to browse online. I've always admired Swedish design because its unapologetically bold but so minimal at the same time. They make this amazing cushion with the most wonderful print. I love the colors and leafs.
4. My love for children's illustrations is what sparked my love for Donna Wilson. I LOVE everything that she makes and admire her style so much. I've been lusting over her Fox Plate for forever and I'm finally convincing myself. I think that going to be my next purchase!
5. Last but not least the most adorable sweater that i've ever laid eyes on. Sold on ouef nyc, it's also on my Christmas gift list for Amelia ;)
This are some of the things that inspire me. What are some of your favorite items around?
